LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton trailed from the opening tip-off during the annual trip to the Junell Center in San Angelo as the Rambelles handed the TexAnns their second consecutive loss and fourth straight road loss. The TexAnns had three players in double figures -
Kiara Wright (16),
Shanae Lowrance (11) and
Brianna Bledsoe (13).
SERIES HISTORY
This is the 39th all-time meeting between the TexAnns and Javelinas, dating back to the first meeting in 1986. Kingsville dominated the series from the beginning by taking a 16-3 advantage from 1986 to 2003. With a 59-44 win on Jan. 3, 2004 in Ronnie Hearne's first career game against the Javelinas turned the tide of the series in Tarleton's favor. In Hearne's tenure against the Javelinas, Tarleton has seized control of the series by winning 17 of the last 19 meetings.
STARTING EARLY
Due to the Tarleton men's game being broadcasted on Comcast Sports in Houston, the women's game has been moved to a 4:30 p.m. start time.
THE CURING EFFECT OF WISDOM GYM
Tarleton has only lost back-to-back games seven times since 2009 - one of them was a three-game losing skid in 2011. In all seven occasions, including earlier this season, Tarleton has ended the streak by returning home to Wisdom Gym - this includes the two times when Tarleton lost back-to-back games to end the season and opened the next year with a home win in the season-opener.
MORE HISTORY IN SIGHT FOR WRIGHT
Kiara Wright is quickly approaching her former teammate, Shelby Adamson, as the school's all-time scoring leader in Tarleton's NCAA era. The senior All-American currently has 1538 points and is 7 points away from passing Adamson's mark of 1,544. Wright and Adamson played alongside each other for two seasons and the tandem led Tarleton to its first LSC Championship in school history in 2011-12. The pair played in 51 games and started 25 of them together. Wright outscored Adamson 17 times in their two-year career as teammates and once, in the 2011-12 season, both players scored at least 20 points in the same game.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
After starting the season 5-3, the Javelinas hit a rough patch in their schedule when they dropped six of seven meetings from December to mid-January. Since Lone Star Conference play began, the Javelinas have not won back-to-back games. They have followed up each one of their conference wins with at least two straight losses. Lindsey Mahone and Ashley Viera are the leading scorers for Kingsville with 13.3 and 11.0 points per game.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will honor their three seniors on Senior Night in Wisdom Gym as they host No. 5 West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Wednesday night in the home finale.
