THE GAME
Tarleton State will look to get back in the win column as the TexAnns host Eastern New Mexico for a Saturday night showdown with the Zias in Wisdom Gym at 5 p.m.
THE BROADCAST
The game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the TexAnns, Keltin Wiens, will serve as the play-by-play for Tarleton basketball this season. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. The pregame show will begin 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
THE OPPONENT
In year two of the Josh Prock era in Portales, Eastern New Mexico has surpassed its win total (6) from a year ago. After starting the season 1-5, the Zias have gone 8-10 to give them their second best record in the past 7 years, with their best season coming in 2011-2012 when ENMU won 10 games and qualified for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Eastern New Mexico would be eliminated in the first round of the LSC tournament that year at the hand of the TexAnns in a 56-75 loss at the Allen Event Center.
THE SERIES
Tarleton and Eastern New Mexico will square off for the 42nd time since 1980 when they meet on Saturday. The TexAnns hold the all-time lead 29-12 in a series that has been extremely one-sided since the turn of the century. Eastern New Mexico won 10 of the first 14 meetings but a 49-43 win by Tarleton on Jan. 25, 2001 in Portales turned the tide of the series. That win sparked a run of 25 wins over the next 27 meetings leading up to Saturday. The TexAnns have won 16 straight over Eastern New Mexico dating back to 2007.
STREAKING AGAINST EASTERN
Tarleton State has won 16 straight games against Eastern New Mexico, dating back to Feb. 24, 2007. That is the longest active win-streak against a current LSC opponent and the second-longest active streak against an NCAA-era opponent behind the current 24-game streak against McMurry, who Tarleton will play on Wednesday in Abilene.
MILESTONE WATCH
•
Kathy Thomas enters Saturday's game with 89 career 3-pointers made. Her six triples against West Texas A&M Wednesday leaves her five (5) 3's away from passing Casey Davies (93) in 10th and tying Lisa Parker (94) for No. 9 all-time.
•With 234 career assists;
Morgan Ashmore is currently all alone for 12th all-time. She is 48 away from passing Jenn Doroga (281) for 11th all-time.
PAK ON THE BLOCK
Tarleton State sophomore
Ikpeaku Iwobi is coming off her 21th career game with at least seven rebounds. There are six other active TexAnns with at least one career game of seven or more rebounds and all six of the other active TexAnns have a combined 19 seven-rebound games.
TOPS IN THE NATION
Tarleton State ranks among the nations best in multiple statistical categories, including:
• No. 26 in FT percentage (.763)
• No. 32 in 3-point percentage (.363)
WILSON EYES NO. 15
With her win against Kingsville February 14th, Tarleton State head coach
Misty Wilson tied Ronnie Hearne for the most wins by a TexAnn rookie head coach in the NCAA era. Hearne went 14-14 in his first season while Tammy Moorhead and Claude Cummings each when 10-16 in their rookie seasons. Only Jan Lowery in 1976-77 posted a winning record in her first season as head coach.
CAREER DAYS vs ENMU
Morgan Ashmore,
Travanti Downes and
Bailey Wipff have all set career highs against Eastern New Mexico. Ashmore swiped four steals against the Zias back in 2013. Downes dished out three assists during her freshman year and Wipff scored 21 points against Eastern New Mexico in the first match up from this season in Portales, New Mexico.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton State will take to the road for the shortest trip of the season as the TexAnns head to Abilene for a 6 p.m. non-conference match up against the McMurry Warhawks.
