AT A GLANCEÂ
The Texans cap a two-game homestand with their second of four nonconference home games against NAIA independent Bacone College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday inside Wisdom Gym.Â
A win over the Warriors gives Tarleton its fourth consecutive 2-0 start to its home schedule dating back to 2017-18 and moves the 2020-21 squad above .500 for the first time in its inaugural Division I season. The Texans are 11-1 in games played inside Wisdom Gym in November over the last four years. Tarleton entered the Division I and Wisdom Gym win column on Saturday with a 76-50 win over Howard Payne to even its overall record at 1-1. Â
Bacone, which is located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, arrives in Stephenville with a 3-4 record and is fresh off a 93-88 overtime loss to Arlington Baptist, whom Tarleton faces on Dec. 14. The Warriors' three wins under first-year head coach Mike Gonzales already matches their win total from last season.Â

Â
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Texans left little to chance versus the Yellow Jackets on a historic Saturday afternoon inside Wisdom Gym. Tarleton led by as many as 32 points and shot over 50 percent from the field for the second consecutive game. A 15-0 scoring run in the first quarter helped put the hosts ahead 26-7 at the end of the frame. Tarleton led by double digits for all but 2:53 of the game.Â
Tarleton has now won 13 of its last 14 home-openers. Saturday's win was the program's fourth consecutive home-opening victory.Â
Sophomore Callie Boyles recorded the first double-double of her career and first in Tarleton's Division I transition with a 12-point, 13-rebound effort. The 6-3 forward also recorded five blocks in 25 minutes off the bench.Â
Guards Iyana Dorsey (17 points) and Jayci Morton (10 points) and forward Emily Cunningham (16) scored in double figures. Tarleton received scoring contributions from eight of a possible 11 players in the win.Â
Tarleton's offensive efficiency improved from its 87-71 season-opening loss to North Texas on Nov. 25. The Texans finished with 18 assists – six of which came from Morton, which were a career-high for the Stephenville native and fueled an individual plus-minus rating of 39. Tarleton recorded just three assists versus the Mean Green, the lowest single-game total by a team coached by Misty Wilson.Â
The Texans are searching for consistent play in the second quarter. A 31-15 scoring advantage by North Texas in the game's second period accounted for Tarleton's entire margin of defeat. Howard Payne outscored Tarleton 20-16 in the second quarter and connected on 6-12 shots from long range.Â
Â
BALANCED SCORING ATTACKÂ
Six players have scored in double figures in at least one game for the Texans. Alexa Hoy, who has been Tarleton's primary ballhandler, finished with 12 points on 6-11 shooting against the Mean Green. Junior Marissa Escamilla netted 10 points in 18 minutes against North Texas in what was her fourth career start. Morton started in place of Escamilla on Saturday.Â
Dorsey and Cunningham have scored at least 10 points in both games for Tarleton.Â
Â
DORSEY'S HISTORIC OFFENSIVEÂ STARTÂ
The 5-6 guard led all scorers on Saturday with 17 points - 12 of which came in the first half. She scored 18 points against North Texas, which were the most in a season-opening game since 2014 and most by a freshman in a season-opener under head coach Misty Wilson. Dorsey is shooting at a 43.5 percent clip.Â
Dorsey ranks fourth in the Western Athletic Conference in scoring (17.5Â ppg) and is second in free throws made (12-16).Â
Â
TEXANS ATOP WAC STATISTICAL LEADERBOARDÂ
Boyles' six blocks are tops among individuals. Cunningham is second in field goal percentage (66.7) on the heels of a 6-9 shooting effort against Howard Payne and is sixth in 3-point field goal percentage at 62.5 percent (5-8). Lucy Benson and Boyles are tied for sixth in rebounds per game (7) and Benson, who has 103 steals for her career, is third in the category with six total.Â
As a team, Tarleton ranks first in field goal percentage (50.5), second in 3-point field goal percentage (32.3)Â and fourth in scoring (73.5Â ppg).Â
Â
BENSON MATCHES CAREER-HIGHSÂ
Her 15 points scored against the Mean Green were the most in a single game by the senior since she recorded 15 points in an 83-75 win over Pittsburg State on Nov. 27, 2019. Benson then tied her single-game high in rebounds (9) vs. Howard Payne. Oddly enough, the Kennedale, Texas native has made 32 starts for Tarleton over the last three years but has yet to record her first career double-double.Â
Â
MORTON EARNS HER KEEPÂ
Injuries and consistent performances have earned sophomore Jayci Morton a steady increase in minutes. Morton, a 2019 graduate of Stephenville High School, has started in five of the Texans' last six games dating back to the 2019-2020 campaign. She's averaging 26 minutes per game over the last seven games. Â
Morton put forth arguably her best performance against the Yellow Jackets. She netted 10 points to go along with 6 points and 4 rebounds in her first start of the 2020-21 season in place of Escamilla. The 5-11 guard finished with a plus-minus rating of 39. Morton gave Tarleton 26 minutes off the bench against North Texas and scored two points to go along with six rebounds.Â
Â
THE REST OF THE NONCONFERENCE SLATEÂ
Up next for Tarleton is a six-hour bus ride south to Beaumont for a matchup with Lamar at 2 p.m. on Saturday inside the Montagne Center. The Texans host Champion Christian (Dec. 12) and Arlington Baptist in between Satruday's game against Lamar and a road trip to Oral Roberts on Dec. 10.Â
Tarleton caps its nonconference schedule with a visit to Las Vegas, Nevada for a pair of neutral site games at the South Point Classic. Tarleton meets North Alabama on Dec. 20 before turning around to take on Eastern Michigan a day later. Both games tip off at noon CT.Â
Â
