ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- This is the first ever meeting between the Texans and Wildcats.
- TSU has not yet played a team currently in the Big Sky Conference, where Weber State resides.
- The Wildcats are 3-5 on the season, losers of three of their last four games. On Wednesday they lost 73-60 at Colorado State, despite 22 points (8-11 FG) and 11 rebounds from Daryn Hickok.
- Hickok leads Weber State in scoring at 14.6 PPG. She's scored 20+ points in three straight games (22.7 PPG).
QUICK HITS
- In Tarleton's last game, the Texans beat Arlington Baptist 103-22, setting a program record largest margin of victory at 81 points. They surpassed their 80-point win over Concordia on Nov. 24, 2009 (109-29). The 22 points allowed are a new record in Tarleton's NCAA era, and overall, the fewest the Texans have allowed since 1983 (Austin College with 20). Tarleton's 103 points marks the first time the Texans have hit triple-figures since March 9, 2019, at Angelo State.
- The Texans have begun the year 5-2 for the third time in four seasons. With a win against Weber State, TSU would have its second 6-2 start under head coach Misty Wilson (2018-19). In the 14 instances Tarleton has started 6-2 or better, the Texans had 20+ wins in the season 11 times.
- The Texans have the tied-third best record in the WAC at 5-2, just one game back of No. 2 ACU.
- Jenna Dick, formerly of the Big Sky's Eastern Washington, has played against Weber State four times, averaging 10.0 points, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals. Last season, she torched the Wildcats for a season-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting (6-of-10 3PT), to go with six assists and two steals.
- Tarleton leads the WAC in rebounds per game by a large margin with 46.0 RPG. The next closest team is Dixie State at 40.7 RPG. Tarleton is also atop the WAC in average blocks per game at 5.7.
- The Texans are allowing the fewest points in the WAC at 54.3 PPG. They're forcing the worst shooting in the conference at 31.6 percent, including a second-lowest 26.5 3PT percentage.
WHO'S HOT
- Jenna Dick – In the last game, Dick made 5-of-8 from distance for 15 points, adding four boards and two steals. She's now made 12-of-25 from long range this season, owning the fifth best three-point percentage in the WAC at 48.0 percent. Her 12 3PM are tied-13th most in the WAC.
- Nya Mitchels – In the last game, Mitchels led the team in scoring with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, adding seven rebounds. It was a career-high in scoring for her in her 38th career collegiate game (including 31 at UNCW), and the first time she's eclipsed the 10-point mark.
- Seynabou Thiam – Thiam added three more blocks to her total in the last game, now at 16 on the season. She leads the WAC at her 2.3 blocks per game average, and if not for reclassification, she'd rank 30th across all of NCAA Division I. Only two Texans had 16+ blocks across 25 games last season.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
46: The Texans are averaging 46.0
REBOUNDS PER GAME through seven games. They've secured 40+ rebounds in each of their last six games, their longest such stretch in at least the last 15 years. They had 56 rebounds in their last game, their most in a single-game since 2014-15 (60 vs. ABU).
32: The Texans just forced Arlington Baptist to shoot 15.6 percent from the field. They're allowing a season
SHOOTING PERCENTAGE of just 31.6 percent, the best mark in the WAC and would-be tied-seventh best mark across all of NCAA Division I, if not for reclassification.
81: Tarleton just set a new record
MARGIN OF VICTORY by beating Arlington Baptist by 81 points. On the season, the Texans have a +16.9 average scoring margin. In each of their five wins, they've won by double figures, including by 20+ three times and 40+ twice.
46: In their last five games, the Texans haven't allowed a team to score 60 points, an
AVERAGE OPPONENT SCORING MARK of 45.8 points. For context, only two teams are allowing fewer than 46 points per game on the season in NCAA Division I (Coastal Carolina and UCF).
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
There will be no time to rest for the Texans this go-around as they'll return home for a Monday night matchup against Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. CT at Wisdom Gym. Tarleton and the Golden Eagles have matched up three times in the programs' histories, including a meeting last season on Dec. 10. Oral Roberts hosted the Texans and won 66-56 on the heels of a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double by Regan Schumacher.
Marissa Escamilla had 13 points and seven rebounds in the game. The Texans lead the all-time series 2-1, with both wins coming in 1990.
