Tarleton Women’s Golf adds Rebeca Fernandez from Spain

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – There is a new addition to the Tarleton women's golf team, and she comes to Stephenville all the way from Marbella, Spain.

Rebeca Fernandez joins the Texans from Colegio Leonés, becoming the eighth member of the roster and the first signee for 2022-23.

"I am very excited about Rebeca, she comes from a high-performance center in Spain where she had the opportunity to grow as a player and also academically," head coach Isabel Jimenez said. "She is used to that college routine where you are far away from home and you have to perform at your best both on and off the course. She is going to bring us consistency and playing experience, which is needed at this level, especially in a conference like the WAC. I cannot wait to start the fall season and see her succeed here at Tarleton."

Fernandez boasts a -1.6 handicap. In 2022 tournament play, she posted three top-10 finishes, four times in the top-20, with an average score of 75.

In 2021, Fernandez averaged a score of 75.7, turning in her best score of -3 (69) in the second round of the Copa Andalucia. She also shot -2 (70) in the fourth and final round of the Memorial Norberto Goizueta to finish in second place at +5 overall.

Fernandez was a member of the Blume National School, an elite program and high-performance center for athletes on national teams.

The Texans recently ended their 2021-22 season with a would-be fifth place finish at the WAC Championship in Kerrville, Texas.
