GADSDEN, Ala. – After a long wait, it's finally over. Tarleton Men's Golf is back in action beginning Monday.
 
The Texans will be playing their first tournament of the 2022-23 season on Monday-Tuesday in Gadsden, Alabama, at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, hosted by UAB. An 11-team field will compete at RTJ at Silver Lakes, a Par 72, 7,467-yard course. Along with Tarleton and UAB, other participants include North Alabama, Lamar, Louisiana, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Campbell, Lipscomb, Charleston Southern and USC Upstate.
 
"It's been since February since I've coached in a college tournament, so I'm just as excited to get back out there just as much as our guys and our fans," head coach Chance Cain said. "Based on the field before us, this will be a good test to see where we're at to begin a brand-new roster's first year at Tarleton. We have five strong, consistent players going, and they should fare well this week."
 
Starting the first tournament will be Jack Anderson at No. 1, Cristobal Sepulveda at No. 2, Masen Ward at No. 3, Max Bengtsson at No. 4 and Takafumi Shimoji at No. 5.
 
This will be Anderson's and Ward's final year playing collegiate golf, representing the "old hats" on the team. Anderson transferred from New Mexico, with Ward coming over from Westminster College.
 
Shimoji, another transfer, is a junior joining the team from Kennesaw State. For Sepulveda and Bengtsson, this will be the freshmen's first collegiate tournament.
 
The group will play 54 holes over the course of two days, 36 holes coming Monday, and the final 18 played on Tuesday. There are a projected 55 players competing in the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate. Live results can be followed here.
