HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas
– Mathilde Brogens was on fire all weekend carding three under-par rounds for a program record, 209, in 54-holes to lead the Texans to a ninth-place finish at the Diamante Intercollegiate at Diamante Country Club.
A strong final day for the Texans shooting two-under-par propelled the women's golf team to a ninth place finish after entering the day in 16
th of 17 teams. The Texans' final round of 285 is the lowest in program history as a Division I program. The mark is tied for the second lowest in any round since 2005, and the lowest team round shot outside of Texas. In the final round, Tarleton's 285 was the third lowest of all 17 teams in the field only bested by California Baptist (276) and Central Arkansas (282).
Brogens led the charge in each of the three days. The junior from Denmark shot 69-70-70 across the Intercollegiate to card the best known 54-hole card in program history. She surpasses her head coach
Isabel Jimenez's 210 she shot at the 2016 NCAA Division II West Regional Championships. Brogens finished in a tie for sixth place totaling seven-under par.
"I am very proud of the way the team played today," said Jimenez. "During this tournament the main topic each morning has been consistency and finishing the rounds strong, which were able to do today. Mat [
Mathilde Brogens] played great golf this week, breaking the school record for the lowest 54-hole round. I'm very proud of the player that she is becoming. She remains calm and focused during the whole round and that shows in her scores every event. We look forward to our last event of the fall season next week in Mississippi!"
Lou Deltombe (78-71-70) turned in a pair of back-to-back under-par rounds in the final two days of the Intercollegiate to finish three-over par in tie for 39
th place.
Sofia Rodriguez finished in a tie for 61
st place carding a 73-76-73.
Rebeca Fernandez recovered after her first two days to shoot an even, 72 and finish 78-76-72 in a tie for 71
st place.
WAC foe, California Baptist took home the team title with a 26 under-par. Boston College (-23) and Central Arkansas (-14) rounded out the podium. The top three team scores were the best three scores ever recorded at the event in its inception in 2007. The Texans 876 was lower than 12 of the previous 15 champions scores, and would have finished second in last year's event.
On the individual side, Georgia State's Pariya Sanpanawat took home the crown shooting 12 under-par in the three-day event. Arkansas' Abby Schulte (-9) was the runner-up.
Tarleton State will close out its fall schedule with a trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to compete in The Judson 2023. Southern Mississippi is hosting the invite set to tee off from Hattiesburg CC on Monday October 30, with the final round being played on Halloween Tuesday, October 31.
