Tarleton State Women’s Golf releases 2023-24 season schedule

The Texans will host their first event since 2019 on October 9 at Squaw Valley Golf Course

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Golf released their 2023-24 schedule as announced by head coach Isabel Jimenez on Wednesday.

The 11-tournament schedule features the program's first home event since 2019. The Texans will play in five events in the fall and six in the spring. In total, the squad will visit six different states. The program will play at four courses for the first time.

A season ago, the Texans did not carry a single senior on the roster, with the squad mainly comprised of freshmen and sophomores. The youth-movement has aged one more year and Tarleton State hopes to build onto last year's successful season. "I have high expectations for this group of young ladies and I know they do as well. The 22-23 season did not end the way we wanted, leaving us with that feeling of wanting more. The first two weeks of practices are going to be tough with the high Texas temperatures, but they are going to be crucial to starting off our season strongly." Coach Jimenez remarked on the upcoming season.

With the program debuting in 1987-88, Tarleton State will embark on its 37th season on Sept. 11-12 in Provo, Uta. at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational. The two-day contest will be held at Timpanogos Golf Club hosted by Utah Valley. For the third consecutive season, the Texans will travel to Huntsville for the Bearkat Invitational. This year the event will be held on Sept. 25-26 at the Elkins Lake G.C.

The Texans will begin their October with their first home contest since the Texan Invitational in the fall of 2019. On Oct. 9, Tarleton State will host Texan Match Play at Squaw Valley Golf Course – Lakes Course in Glen Rose. "This year we are trying something new, by hosting a one-day match-play event. It will consist of four teams competing during 36 holes with 18 holes in the morning and another 18-hole round in the afternoon. One champion will be crowned at the end of both rounds." said coach Jimenez. "Although the match-play format is not very common in college golf, it's the format the girls most enjoy, and I am thankful that I can host it for them. I am also glad to give the opportunity to our fans and supporters to see us compete close to home."

For the second-straight fall, Tarleton will travel to Little Rock for the Little Rock Women's Classic. Last year, Elle Fox turned in the best Texan performance of the fall, tying for third overall. The three-day contest will be hosted by Arkansas - Little Rock starting on Oct. 22 at Diamante C.C. Tarleton State will round out the fall slate with a Halloween tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. On Oct. 30-31, the Texans will play in The Judson 2023 hosted by Southern Miss.

Tarleton State will open the spring portion of its campaign on Feb. 5-6 in New Braunfels at the Texas State Invitational. The contest is set to be held at Landa Park G.C. The Texans will round out February in Phoenix. On Feb. 27-28, the Texans will play in the 2024 GCU invitational at the GCU Golf Course. Last spring, Sofia Rodriguez led the squad with a top 20 finish, posting two rounds of even or better. Continuing its slate, Tarleton State will head to Sugarland for the HCU Women's intercollegiate hosted by Houston Christian on March 11-12. This will mark the third-straight season with a trip to Riverbend C.C. The following weekend, the Texans will compete in the three-day UAB Bama Beach Bash in Gulf Shores Ala. Hosted by UAB, the tournament will start on March 17 and conclude on Mar. 19 at Gulf Shores G.C.

For the third time in the last four seasons, Tarleton will travel to Broken Arrow, Okla. For the Oral Roberts Spring Invitational. On Apr. 8-9, the Texans will play at The Club at Indian Springs – River Course. The two-day contest will serve as the squad's last event before the WAC Championship running from April 19-21. This year the event will be held in Payson, Ariz. at Chaparral Pines – The Rim. In each of the past two seasons, Mathilde Brogens has finished in the top 11 at the WAC Championships. Last season at the event, she led the Texans tying for 11th place and in 2022 competing as an individual she finished in eighth place.
