PROVO, Utah — Tarleton State teed off to start their 2023-24 campaign at the Timpanogos Collegiate Classic hosted by Utah Valley at the Timpanogos Golf Club on Sunday and closed on Tuesday afternoon.
Mathilde Brogens was the top finisher for the Texans carding a 72-73-71 for an even-par 216 for 54 holes. In Tuesday's final round, she recorded an eagle on the 18
th hole. Throughout her 54 holes, she turned in six birdies, including four in her first round.
In
Lou Deltombe's first round as a Texan on Sunday she led the squad entering the clubhouse with a one-under-par, 71, and in a tie for 18
th place overall. The Menlo College transfer finished the classic six over par in tie for 70
th place in her first outing with Tarleton State.
Rebeca Fernandez shot 74's in consecutive rounds to open the tournament. She finished 11-over par, tied for 73
rd place.
Elle Fox carded a 76-77-75 to finish in a tie for 79
th place.
Alejandra Combronero shot 17-over par and finished tied for 92
nd.
As a team, the Texans turned in 30 birdies and an eagle across all five players in the 54-hole event.
Fresno State's Ashley Leigh took home the individual crown carding seven-under-par 65 in the second round and totaled a 15 under-par across three rounds. Grand Canyon's Leighton Shosted (-12) and Cal State Northridge's Nicole Tanoue (-9) closed out the top three finishers.
Grand Canyon won the team championship at 27-under. The Lopes shot an impressive (-18) and (-10) in the final two rounds to claim the title. Santa Clara (-18) and Fresno State (-12) rounded out the top three teams in the field of 19.
Tarleton State will return to the links on September 25 for the two-day Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston at the Elkins Lake Country Club in Huntsville, Texas.
