Tarleton State Track and Field opens indoor season with trio of meets

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Tarleton State Track and Field squad will open its 2024-25 indoor season with a trio of events starting on Thursday. The Texans will travel to the Shocker Multi on Thursday and compete at Pittsburg State on Friday and Saturday in the Boo Rogers Combined Events and Crimson & Gold Invitational.
 
Thursday's Shocker Multi will feature three Texan athletes. Jordan Rae, Malak Rashwan and Melaina Grissom will be the first three to don the Purple and White this indoor season. On Friday, the distance runners will compete in the Boo Rogers combined events to kick off their indoor slate. Saturday will feature the majority of the team at the Crimson & Gold Invitational. Both Friday and Saturday's events are hosted by Pittsburg State at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Live Stats will be available on the Tarleton State website.
 
"We are very excited to get this season started," said new track and field head coach Bobby Carter. "As a new staff, my expectations for everyone are very high. This team has been working tremendously hard the last 5 months and I am excited to see where we go as we continue to move forward with our goals for the season."
 
Last year, Angel Gomez broke the program 5000 meter run indoor record at the event. Rae earned the no. 2 spot in school history in the women's indoor pentathlon in Pittsburg, Kansas. She earned 3404 points across her five events.
 
At the 2024 WAC Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM, the Texans earned eight top three finishes. Gabriele Tosti took home gold in the triple jump and posted the tenth best jump in the country at the time. Hannah Cade set the indoor school record in the pole vault and took home silver. T The Texan men took sixth place as a team with 52 points, setting one school record. The women finished tied-seventh with 45 points and set four school records.
 
Last season, the Texans tallied 21 total medals at the 2024 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Tosti completed the sweep in the triple jump taking home the outdoor title too. The Texans claimed 21 medals in the three-day event at the Hal Wing Track and Field in Orem, Utah. Both the men's and the women's squad both posted higher team finishes than 2023 in Nacogdoches. Both the men and women each notched sixth place finishes.
 
Tarleton State will have over a month off before the grind of the indoor season continues. The Texans will go to Texas Tech for back-to-back invites. The squad will start with the Corky Classic in Lubbock on Jan. 17-18 at the Texas Tech Sport Performance Center.
