PHOENIX — Tarleton State Women's Golf concluded its first of two events in Arizona this spring, the GCU Invitational at the GCU Golf Course.
The Texans' will return to Arizona for their final competition of the spring at the WAC Championship held at The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Ariz.
Tarleton finished 18
th in the 22-team field ahead of fellow WAC member Southern Utah. TSU finished third of the four participating WAC teams.
The highlight of the first round was
Mathilde Brogens' eagle on the 18
th hole. The junior from Denmark carded a three on the par five for her first eagle of the spring and third this season.
Lou Deltombe led the Texans and carded a two-under, 70, in the first round. The sophomore transfer finished in a tie for 42
nd place carding a 220 (+4), 70-76-74. Brogens turned in a 73 in the final round, her best of the week, to finish with a nine-over par, 225.
After not playing in the Texans' first event of the spring,
Rebeca Fernandez shot a pair of two-over pars on the first day. Fernandez finished 12-over par shooting a 228 and finishing in a tie for 85 place.
Elle Fox and
Sofia Rodriguez rounded out the Purple and White's five carding a 232 and 233, respectively to finish tied for 96
th and tied for 104
th place.
Quedesha Golledge turned in her best performance as Texan carding a 77-79-74 (230), to be 14-over par and finish in 90
th, competing as an individual.
New Mexico State took home the team title shooting 16-under par, edging Grand Canyon by a stroke (-15). Cal State Fullerton rounded out the podium with a 12-under par performance.
NMSU's Emma Bunch took home the individual crown carding a 14-under par. Montana State's Scarlet Weidig finished second totaling a -11 and a three-way tie occupied third place at nine-under par.
Tarleton State will play in a pair of events in March beginning at the HCU Husky invitational on March 11 and 12 in Sugar Land, Texas. The two-day invitational will be held at Riverbend Country Club.
