Women’s Golf hits halfway point of spring season at HCU Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Tarleton State Women's Golf will begin the HCU Husky Invitational on Monday for its third tournament of the spring and first of two in March with a two day, 54-hole event at the Riverbend Country Club.

The 54-hole event will open on Monday with two rounds totaling 36 holes and close on Tuesday with the third and final round of 18. Monday will feature a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live Stats will be provided by birdiefire.com.

The 12-team field consists of 11 Texas schools and three other WAC opponents. Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian and UT Arlington will join Tarleton State as the four WAC schools competing. The field also includes: Houston Christian, Lamar, McLennan Community College, Prairie View A&M, Odessa Community College, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Oklahoma City University.

In the Texans first two outings this spring, the team finished tied for fifth at the Texas State Invitational and 18th at the GCU Invitational. Sofia Rodriguez finished in the top 20 in the first tournament of the spring at Texas State. Lou Deltombe led the Texans finishing in the top 50 two weeks ago at the GCU Invitational.

This week's line up will be formed by Deltombe, Mathilde Brogens, Rebeca Fernandez, Rodriguez and Quedesha Golledge. In addition, Elle Fox will be playing as an individual, which mean, her scores will not count towards the team totals but she is still able to get an individual win.

The Riverbend C.C. is familiar to the Texans making 2024 their third consecutive season playing in this event. In each of the past two springs, the Texans have had a top 20 individual finish and placed in the top 12 as a team. Last year, Fox topped the Texans with a 19th place finish leading the team to 12th overall. In the 2021-22 season, Rodriguez posted an 18th place finish to lead the Texans to an 11th overall finish.

Tarleton State will be back in action next week with a three-day tournament at the Bama Beach Bash hosted by UAB. The Texans will open the first round on Sunday March, 17  with the final round on Tuesday. The four-day turnaround will be the shortest for the Purple and White this season, but next week will be their final event in March this year.
