Fox 10th place finish in her best outing this season leads Texans at HCU Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Elle Fox carded her best three-round score of the season to finish tenth for the Tarleton State women's golf team at the HCU Husky Invitational at Riverbend CC concluding on Tuesday.

For the third straight year, the Texans had at least one individual place in the top 20 of the HCU Husky Invitational. Fox topped the squad for the second-straight season with a tenth-place finish competing as an individual. Thus the 79-74-77 she carded for a nine-over-par, 225 did not count towards Tarleton's team score. Fox's 225 is her lowest performance as a Texan this season.

Tarleton in total had three individuals finish in the top 20 with Lou Deltombe and Sofia Rodriguez each finishing tied for 15th with a 230 (+14). Mathilde Brogens tied for 36th with a 24 over-par and Rebeca Fernandez concluded in 43rd shooting 26 over-par in the three-round event. Quedesha Golledge rounded out the squad finishing in 62nd carding a 42 over-par.

Abilene Christian won the team title by nearly 30 strokes over the host Houston Christian. ACU carded just an 18 over par while HCU finished in second 46 over par. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi rounded out the podium with a three place finish, shooting 50 over par.

ACU swept the podium on the individual side with each of the three best hailing form the Wildcats' program. Ryann Honea won the crown carding a 69-73-73 – 213 to shoot two under par. Sydney Williams finished five strokes behind at three-over par. Manon Guille wrapped up third place with a 221, plus-five.

The Riverbend C.C. is familiar to the Texans making 2024 their third consecutive season playing in this event. In each of the past two springs, the Texans have had a top 20 individual finish and placed in the top 12 as a team. Last year, Fox topped the Texans with a 19th place finish leading the team to 12th overall. In the 2021-22 season, Rodriguez posted an 18th place finish to lead the Texans to an 11th overall finish.

Tarleton State will be back in action next week with a three-day tournament at the Bama Beach Bash hosted by UAB. The Texans will open the first round on Sunday March, 17  with the final round on Tuesday. The four-day turnaround will be the shortest for the Purple and White this season, but next week will be their final event in March this year.
