GULF SHORES, Alabama
– Tarleton State Women's golf wrapped up the Bama Beach Bash with a top-10 team finish on Tuesday at Gulf Shores Golf Club hosted by UAB.
The Texans improved in the second round on Tuesday to move up three spots to finish in eighth place overall. The team carded a 307 in the first round and bested their mark by five strokes with a 302 on the final day.
"We are not yet where I know we can be, but as a team I did see a small step forward," said head coach
Isabel Jimenez after the event. "We are heading back home for a few weeks before our last event of the regular season at Oral Roberts and we have a few things to keep on working on."
Sofia Rodriguez (+6) and
Mathilde Brogens (+6) were the top finishers in a tie for 22
nd place overall.
Lou Deltombe (+12),
Elle Fox (+13) each finished in the top 40 and
Rebeca Fernandez (+17) rounded out the squad.
The Texans recorded seven birdies as a team during the second round of the tournament. Rodriguez was responsible for three of the team's seven birdies during the second round.
Sam Houston won the team title shooting nine-over par in the 36 holes. Oral Roberts finished in second shooting 11-over rounding out the podium was Austin Peay and UNC Asheville both at 19-over par.
Oral Roberts' Avery Blake won the individual title finished the final round two-under to finish 142 overall. Jacksonville's Casey Powell and Oral Roberts' Kate Strickland finished just one stroke behind to claim a top three finish.
Tarleton State will round out its 2023-24 season in the month of April. After a back-to-back weekend of tournaments, the Texans will not compete until the second week of April on April 8 and 9 at the Oral Roberts Invitational in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to conclude the regular season. Tarleton will then have 10 days of rest before the WAC Championships from April 19-21 in Payson, Ariz. at The Rim Golf Club.
