Tarleton State Women’s Basketball returns home for “White Out Wisdom” Saturday against GCU

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball will play one of their biggest home games of the season, facing Grand Canyon at Wisdom Gym at 7 p.m. in "White Out Wisdom". 

GCU, who is ranked No. 7 in the CollegeInsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major Poll, enters Saturday's game on a 14-game winning streak. 

All fans are encouraged to wear white, with early arriving fans receiving a free Tarleton State Women's Basketball white t-shirt. Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online here. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State and Grand Canyon will meet for the seventh time in program history. The Texans are looking for their first win over the Lopes since the matchup began in 2021. 
  • The Texans are looking to bounce back after a one-point loss at CBU. Grand Canyon is riding a 14-game winning streak and has not lost a game since Nov. 18, 2024. 
  • GCU is currently ranked No. 7 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll. 
NIKI KNOCKDOWNS
  • Senior guard Niki Van Wyk has been an added lift for the Texans off the bench, averaging over 16 points per game in her last two games, hitting nine 3-pointers. 
  • She led Tarleton State in scoring with 17 points off the bench in the win against Utah Tech (1/11), knocking down a season-high five 3-pointers. It is the fifth time in her career she has had five made 3-pointers in a game, with the last outing being Feb. 22, 2023 when she was at Black Hills State. 
  • Van Wyk is the fifth Tarleton State player in the Division I Era to have five made 3-pointers in a game.
  • She returns to college basketball after taking the 2023-24 season off. She worked in marketing and communications for her mom's AAU organization before joining the Texans. 
GREAT ON THE GLASS
  • The Texans grabbed 20 offensive rebounds at CBU (1/16), their third straight game with 20 or more offensive boards. It is the first time since 2009 (at Texas A&M Kingsville, Angelo State, Central Oklahoma) that a Tarleton State women's basketball team had 20 or more offensive rebounds in three straight games.
  • Grabbing 59 rebounds to set a new Division I Era program record, Tarleton defeated St. Mary's (TX) 64-31 on December 21. 
  • The Texans lead the WAC in rebounding margin, outrebounding its opponents by 7.9 boards per game. They are currently in the top 35 in the nation in that category. 
  • Tarleton has outrebounded its opponents 13 times this season, winning nine of those contests. 
  • Tarleton has had four different players have at least 10 rebounds in a game this season. 
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. The Texans are currently 8-1 on its home floor. 
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.
  • Also housing the women's volleyball gym, indoor turf training facility, weight room, athletic training facility, athletics coaching offices, Hall of Fame, trophy cases housing years of Tarleton's athletic kinesiology department.
