Tarleton State Women’s Basketball takes on in-state rival ACU at Wisdom Thursday night

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball returns to Wisdom Gym to face their in-state rival, Abilene Christian, on Thursday at 7 p.m.  

The Texans defeated ACU in their last meeting with the Wildcats 54-41 in Las Vegas, resulting in Tarleton State's first WAC Tournament win in program history. 

Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State and Abilene Christian will meet for the 55th time in program history. The Texans won the last matchup against the Wildcats, clinching their first WAC Tournament win in Las Vegas last season. 
  • The Texans are looking to bounce back after two close losses last week. ACU is coming off a 71-55 win at CBU on Saturday. 
  • ACU has won 11 out of its last 13 games, ending non-conference on a nine-game win streak.
AWESOME ACKER
  • Sophomore center Faith Acker has been a great scoring and rebounding threat for the Texans this season. 
  • Acker made 10 of her 11 shots and scored a season-high 21 points to go with nine rebounds in the win at Arkansas State (12/19). Acker's 90.9% shooting set a new single game Division I program record with the highest field goal percentage (min. 10 shot attempts).
  • Acker currently leads the Texans in double-doubles with two this season. Her most recent one came at #24 Nebraska (12/11) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Acker had the first Tarleton double-double against a nationally-ranked opponent (#24 Nebraska, 12/11) in the Division I Era. Her 11 rebounds were the most by a Texan player against a Power 4 conference opponent in the Division I Era.
  • She surpassed the 200 career rebounds as just a sophomore against LeTourneau (12/7), having 157 in her freshman season to average over five boards per game. 
  • Acker recorded her first double-double of the season against Delaware (11/29) with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Texans to victory. 
  • She cracked the top 15 for career blocks in program history with 52. 
LEADERS OF THE WAC
  • Tarleton State currently leads the conference in four categories: Field Goal Percentage Defense (37.6%), Free Throw Percentage (73.8%), Rebounding Margin (7.5), and Scoring Defense (57.7). 
  • The Texans are currently second in the WAC in Bench Points per Game (23.2), Rebounds Per Game (39.2), and Three Point Percentage Defense (28.2%)
  • Tarleton is third in the WAC in Blocks Per Game (3.5) and Free Throws Made Per Game (11.4). 
  • Predicted to finish sixth in the WAC in the preseason poll, Tarleton entered conference play in fourth place with a 9-6 record. They have the third-most non-conference wins in the WAC.
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. The Texans are currently 8-1 on its home floor. 
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.
  • Also housing the women's volleyball gym, indoor turf training facility, weight room, athletic training facility, athletics coaching offices, Hall of Fame, trophy cases housing years of Tarleton's athletic kinesiology department.
