Tarleton Women's Basketball starts conference homestand against Southern Utah Thursday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- Tarleton Women's Basketball begins its WAC homestand at Wisdom Gym on Thursday, taking on Southern Utah at 7 p.m. 

Thursday's game will remain as scheduled following Tarleton State University's announcement of a campus shutdown.
 
The university issued a Code Purple for Thursday due to impending inclement weather, closing campus. The university and Tarleton Athletics will take measures to make the area as safe as possible for fans traveling to and from the game.
 
The game will tip off at 7 p.m. at Wisdom Gym on Thursday, featuring Tarleton State and Southern Utah. It is Law Enforcement Appreciation Night, and any fan with a valid law enforcement ID will receive a free general admission ticket, a discounted meal deal at $5, and in-game recognition.
 
Tickets for Thursday's game start at $10.

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to the Tarleton Sports Network radio call online. There will be a pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton and Southern Utah will meet for the fifth time in program history. With the series tied 2-2, the winner will grab the series lead. 
  • Tarleton currently sits in sixth place in the WAC while Southern Utah is in last place in the conference. 
  • A win for Tarleton would give the Texans their first win of the 2025 calendar year and make them 7-1 at home this season. This season is the last for basketball at Wisdom Gym. 
PEAK PERFORMER 
  • Tarleton State signed former Mary Hardin-  Baylor star Arieona Rosborough this past season. 
  • Rosborough has four 20-point games this season, most recently collecting a season-high 28 points to go with eight rebounds at UT Arlington (1/4). It was the most points by a Tarleton player in a WAC opener. 
  • She had her first double-double at Arkansas State (12/19), finishing with 22 points to go with 10 rebounds. The senior guard also had seven assists, three dimes shy of the program's second triple-double and first since 1982. 
  • Following a 20-point outing against Nicholls (12/30), Rosborough was named to the Fleur-De-Lis All-Tournament Team at the 2024 Big Easy Classic. 
  • In just her second game, Rosborough scored a season-high 21 points at Arizona (11/7), the second 20-point performance against a Power 4 conference opponent in program history. 
  • She earned a plethora of honors at UMHB, including three times being named ASC All-Conference First Team, ASC Player of the Year, and ASC Defensive Player of the Year. 
  • She was twice named to ASC All-Conference Defensive Team, ASC Freshman of the Year, Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball Non-DI All-Texas Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, and D3hoops.com First Team All-Region. 
  • She played 80 career games (74 starts) for the Cru, averaging 15.1 points and eclipsing the 1,000-point mark by scoring 1,210 career points.  
BENCH BOOST
  • Tarleton State has had a major lift off its bench this season, most recently at UT Arlington (1/4) with 27 points. 
  • The Texans scored 37 points against St. Mary's (TX) (12/21) and also grabbed 31 of Tarleton's D1 record-setting 59 rebounds. 
  • Tarleton State's bench scored a season-high 56 points to help the Texans to the 99-34 win over LeTourneau (12/7). It is the most bench points by the Texans since Dec. 4, 2021 (70 vs. Arlington Baptist).
  • Freshman guard Grace Booth recorded her first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guards Niki Van Wyk (11 points) and Kyriana Jones (10 points also added double-digit scoring numbers off the bench against LeTourneau (12/7).
  • Tarleton State has a record of 6-2 under head coach Bill Brock when the Texans' bench scores at least 30 points. 
  • The Texans are 6-2 this season when the bench comes up with at least 20 points. Tarleton is 2-0 in 2024-25 when the bench scores at least 40 points. 
LEADERS OF THE WAC
  • Tarleton currently leads the conference in five categories: Field Goal Percentage Defense (36.5%), Free Throw Percentage (74.5%), Rebounding Margin (6.8), Defensive Rebounds Per Game (26.5) and Scoring Defense (56.6). 
  • The Texans are currently second in the WAC in Bench Points per Game (22.8), Rebounds Per Game (38.7) and Three Point Percentage Defense (27.8%). 
  • Tarleton is third in the WAC in Blocks Per Game (3.4) and Free Throws Made Per Game (11.8). 
  • Predicted to finish sixth in the WAC in the preseason poll, Tarleton enters conference play in fourth place with a 9-6 record. They have the third-most non-conference wins in the WAC. 
  • The Texans were the No. 7 seed in last year's WAC Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals with a first round win over Abilene Christian.
