Tarleton State Women’s Basketball travels to Texas A&M for first road contest Thursday

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball goes on the road for the first time, traveling to Texas A&M for a Thursday matinee at 11 a.m. at Reed Arena. 

The Texans will face Texas A&M for the first time in program history. Tarleton State is a member of the A&M University System.

Tarleton State is coming off a double overtime 75-71 win over Houston Christian on Sunday. The Texans won their first double overtime game since 2011 and first in the Division I era. Tarleton State is searching for its first victory over a Power 4 Conference opponent. 

Fans can watch Thursday's game on SEC Network+ and can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. 

PLAYING WITHIN THE SYSTEM
  • Tarleton State is a proud member of the Texas A&M University System, one of the largest systems of higher education in the United States. The Texans joined the A&M System in 1917.
  • The Texans have had hundreds of battles with schools within the A&M System in their history and will face two of its fellow members for the first time this season. 
  • The matchup with flagship university, Texas A&M, on Nov. 13 will be the first meeting between the two schools in women's basketball. 
  • Tarleton State will also face Texas A&M-San Antonio on Dec. 7 for the first time in program history. 
  • The Texans have an all-time record of 86-82 against A&M System schools. 
GREAT ON THE GLASS
  • Outrebounding the opposition is a continuing trend for Tarleton State Women's Basketball. 
  • The Texans opened the 2025-26 season with 53 rebounds as a team, the most in a season opener in the Division I Era. Tarleton State had two players with 10+ rebounds (Shadasia Brackens - 11 and Allie Myers - 10). 
  • Tarleton State has outrebounded every opponent thus far this season. 
  • The Texans are currently in the top 20 in Division I Women's Basketball in defensive rebounds per game. 
  • Junior forward Shadasia Brackens is currently 11th in the nation and second in the conference in total rebounds with 29. 
  • The Texans led the WAC in rebounding margin last year, outrebounding its opponents by 7.6 boards per game. They were 18th in the nation in that category. 
WORKING OVERTIME
  • Extra basketball has been played in two of the Texans' first three contests in 2025-26. 
  • Tarleton State went into overtime for the first time since Feb. 25, 2023 against Arkansas State (11/7). The Texans lost that game 87-77 in Stephenville. 
  • In the next game, the Texans came out on top in a double overtime thriller against Houston Christian (11/9) 75-71. It was the Texans' second-ever overtime win in the Division I era. 
  • Tarleton State picked up its first double overtime victory since Feb. 16, 2011 (75-66 vs. West Texas A&M). It was the Texans' first double overtime game since Feb. 2, 2017 (vs. Eastern New Mexico).
REUNITED AGAIN
  • Senior guard Luka Malinka, who played college basketball in the United States at Roosevelt, Northern Colorado and Winthrop, earned All-Conference honors last season. 
  • The Rungsted, Denmark, native will reunite with Associate Head Coach Geoff Golden, who was on Northern Colorado's coaching staff when Malinka played for the Bears in 2022-23.
  • Malinka was a second-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection in 2024-25. Finishing second in the league in scoring at 15.4 points per game, Malinka had seven 20-point performances.   
  • In just her third game as a Texan, Malinka dropped a season-high 21 points and went 10-for-11 from the free throw line to lead the Texans in scoring in Tarleton State's double overtime win over Houston Christian (11/9). 
  • She is the sixth Texan in the Division I era to make 10+ free throws in a game.
