STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Track and Field will open their outdoor season after a historic indoor slate on Saturday in the Clyde Hart Classic hosted by Baylor at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
The event will start Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and run all day. Live Results will be provided by Live Athletics, but there will not be a live stream. Follow @tarletonxctrack on Instagram and X for photo and video highlights and updates throughout the day and the season.
The Texans will compete among the eight-team field. Also joining Tarleton State will be: Baylor, Oklahoma State, SFA, UTA, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Western Michigan and Sam Houston State. Tarleton State will be competing at Baylor in the outdoor season for the fifth-straight year. Saturday will be the Purple and White's third-consecutive appearance at the Clyde Hart Classic. Last year, the Texans set 12 new outdoor top 10 performance bests at the meet.
Hannah Cade led the accomplishments, setting the new school record in the pole vault. She cleared 4.00 meters to break her teammate,
Sage Barmettler's, previous program record of 3.72, set in 2023.
Last weekend, four Texans competed for the first time in their first year of eligibility at the NCAA Indoor National Championships. Each day a Texan posted a First Team All-American performances.
Prestina Ochonogor earned First Team All-American honors in the long jump on the first day. Ochonogor became the first Tarleton State athletic to earn NCAA D1 All-American honors in any NCAA Championships.
Gabriele Tosti joined Ochonogor as a First Team All American on Saturday evening. Tosti recorded the highest finish ever by a Texan in any NCAA Championships finishing in sixth overall in the long jump.
Victoria Cameron and
Lokesh Sathyanathan also added Second Team All-American finishes in the 60 meters and long jump, respectively.
Tarleton State scored team points at an NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. The Texans scored points in each of the men's and women's championships. Tarleton's three points on the men's side ranked 46
th place in the entire nation. The men finished tied for 13
th among teams not from a Power Four Conference. On the women's side, the Texans ranked 54
th with one point from Ochonogor. Out of the 61 women's teams to score, Tarleton was one of 17 that are not in a Power Four Conference. Tarleton was the only WAC school in either the men's or women's to score at least one point.
First year head coach Bobby Carter embarks on his first outdoor season with the Texans. Carter helped guide the Texans to their highest men's and women's finishes at the WAC Indoor Championships. The women scored over 100 points more than last year and earned a second-place finish. Four individuals on the women's side earned a WAC event championship. The men posted a fourth-place finish, their best in program history. Two individuals won event titles, including Tosti winning back-to-back indoor triple jump titles.
Tarleton State will continue its second of six regular season outdoor meets next weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The action will span across three days starting on Thursday and concluding on Saturday.
