Tarleton State Women’s Basketball hosts first-ever D1 postseason game Sunday, faces Lindenwood in WNIT

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball is set to play its first-ever Division I postseason game on Sunday at Wisdom Gym at 2 p.m., taking on Lindenwood in the second round of the WNIT. 

The Texans, who clinched the WAC's automatic bid to the event by finishing second in the conference in 2025, are coming off its best season in the Division I Era after winning a single season D1 program record 20 games. Tarleton State was the only team from the WAC to obtain a first round bye for the WNIT and is one of four teams from the conference competing in the round of 32. 

Lindenwood is coming off a 76-60 win over Tulsa in the first round of the WNIT, with the Lions also making their first appearance in a Division I postseason tournament. The Lions were runners-up in the Ohio Valley Conference and won 22 games in 2024-25. Sunday's winner will take on Texas Southern or Louisiana Tech in the WNIT's Super 16. 

Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online or in-person at the Wisdom Gym Box Office on gameday. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State will face Lindenwood in its first-ever Division I postseason game. Both the Texans and the Lions (Ohio Valley Conference) clinched an automatic bid to the WNIT by finishing second in their respective conferences.
  • Tarleton State has won 20 games this season, the most in the Division I Era. Lindenwood has won 22 games, a 15-win improvement from last season.
  • Sunday's game marks the first Division I postseason women's basketball game played at the historic Wisdom Gym. 
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 season will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. Sunday is the first Division I women's basketball game that will be played at Wisdom Gym. 
  • In their final season at Wisdom Gym, the Texans have a 13-2 record. It is the Texans' most wins on their home floor since the 2018-19 season. 
  • Tarleton State defeated California Baptist 77-45 in its final regular season game at Wisdom Gym in front of a Division I Era program record 2,750 fans.
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, All-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.

  • Picked to finish sixth in the WAC preseason poll, Tarleton State finished second in the conference standings and has won 20 games. 
  • The 20 wins in 2024-25 are the most by a Texan team in the Division I Era. 
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball earned a first round bye in the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament after getting the WAC's automatic bid to the tournament. The 2025 WNIT marks the first Division I postseason event for Tarleton State Women's Basketball. 
PEAK PERFORMER
  • Tarleton State signed former Mary Hardin- Baylor star Arieona Rosborough this past season. 
  • Rosborough has five 20-point games this season. Scoring a season-high 28 points in the previous game at UT Arlington (1/4), she is the first Tarleton State player in the Division I Era to have back-to-back 20-point games in the Texans' first two conference games. She is the first player since 2017 to have two consecutive 20-point games in her first two conference games (Mackenzie Hailey). 
  • She has two double-doubles this season, most recently having 12 points and 11 rebounds against GCU (1/18). Rosborough had her first double-double at Arkansas State (12/19), finishing with 22 points to go with 10 rebounds. The senior guard also had seven assists, three dimes shy of the program's second triple-double and first since 1982. 
  • Following a 20-point outing against Nicholls (11/30), Rosborough was named to the Fleur-De-Lis All-Tournament Team at the 2024 Big Easy Classic. 
  • She broke the Division I Era single season program record for offensive rebounds, field goals made and free throws made this season. 
  • Rosborough is 12 points away from breaking the program's Division I single season record for points.
