Tarleton State Men’s Golf completes season at WAC Championship with fourth-place finish, two top 10 individual placements

PAYSON, Ariz. – Tarleton State Men's Golf came up with its best performance of the 2024-25 season at the WAC Championship, finishing in fourth place with a 54-hole score of 889 at Chaparral Pines this weekend. 

Two Texans finished in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, with senior Carson Gallaher leading Tarleton State with a 217 54-hole score to tie for fourth place. Freshman Drew Ironside recorded a 2-under-par second round en route to a 222 54-hole score to tie for 10th place, his best finish of the season. Ironside is the first freshman in the program's Division I Era to collect a top 10 finish at a conference championship. 

Seattle U won the team title with a 54-hole score of 884, edging out two-time defending champion Grand Canyon by three strokes. Utah Valley's Dane Huddleston won the individual title after beating defending champion Kevin Li from Seattle U in a second hole playoff. 

Gallaher came out firing in round one, collecting five birdies through the first 12 holes to jump on top of the leaderboard. The New Braunfels, Texas, native finished the first round with eight birdies to put him at 1-under-par and tied for the top of the player leaderboard after day one. After hitting an eagle on hole No. 2 in the second round, Gallaher followed up with three more birdies to lift himself into first place after round two at 2-under-par. 

Ironside completed Saturday's second round with the Texans' lowest 18-hole performance of the WAC Championship with a 2-under-par 70. The freshman collected his first collegiate eagle on hole No. 12 and finished the second round with four birdies for his season-low 18-hole score. His season-low 54-hole score gave the Midland, Texas, native his first collegiate top 10 finish. 

Senior Alvaro Huidobro completed his Texan career with his sixth top 20 finish of the season, compiling a 227 54-hole score to finish tied for 20th. Huidobro finished his Tarleton State career with five top 10 finishes, playing all of the first three Division I seasons for the program. 

Sophomore Juan Ballester closed out the WAC Championship with a 1-under-par round three, collecting a 229 54-hole score. Freshman Kellen Young came up with a 231 54-hole score in his first WAC Championship. 

Tarleton State completed the season with three top 10 finishes as a team, five individual top 10 performances and 12 top 20 individual performances. The Texans finished in the top four as a team at the WAC Championship and had at least two top 10 individual finishers in the conference tournament. It is the second straight season Tarleton State has finished in the top four as a team and had at least two individuals place in the top 10 at the WAC Championship.
