Tarleton State Women’s Basketball continues WAC road trip at CBU Saturday

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Tarleton State Women's Basketball continues its conference road trip on Saturday, traveling to California Baptist for a 3 p.m. matinee at the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center.

The Texans are seeking their first victory at CBU since joining the WAC. The Texans won their first game against the Lancers in the final regular season basketball game at Wisdom Gym in the last matchup 75-44.

Senior guard Jakoriah Long knocked down seven 3-pointers, matching a Division I era program record. Long's 70% shooting from beyond the arc against CBU was the second-highest 3-point percentage by a Texan in a single game in the Division I era. She was just the second Texan in the Division I era to hit 70% of her 3-pointers off a minimum of seven attempts.

Fans can watch the game on ESPN+ and also listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network.

WELCOME BACK
  • Tarleton State's 2025-26 roster features three players that did not play Division I basketball last season, but will do so this year.
  • Gia Adams was an All-WAC player at UT Arlington in 2023-24 before transferring to North Texas. She did not play at UNT.
  • Caroline Lyles was injured at Akron and did not play in the 2024-25 season.
  • Luka Malinka played Division II basketball at Roosevelt in 2024-25. She played at Winthrop and Northern Colorado before transferring.
  • Having players come back to basketball after a year off is not new for the Texans.
  • Niki Van Wyk was a key role player for the Texans last year in the Purple and White, returning to college basketball after taking the 2023-24 season off. She played in 31 games, starting three, and scored 141 points.
FILL THE TANK
  • The theme for Tarleton State Women's Basketball in 2025-26 is "Fill The Tank."
  • Picked to finish sixth in the WAC preseason poll, Tarleton State finished second in the conference standings and has won 20 games.
  • The 20 wins in 2024-25 are the most by a Texan team in the Division I Era.
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball earned a first round bye in the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament after getting the WAC's automatic bid to the tournament. The 2025 WNIT marks the first Division I postseason event for Tarleton State Women's Basketball.
LETTING LONG LOOSE
  • Long is a scoring threat for the Texans, averaging over 13 points per game in conference play and over 10 points per game overall last year. She was named to the All-WAC Second Team in 2024-25 and Preseason All-WAC Team entering 2025-26.
  • After scoring 18 points against Montana (12/29) to finish non-conference play, Long scored 13 points in the WAC opener against UTA (12/29). She knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter.
  • Long is currently 14th all-time in career 3-pointers in program history. She needs two more to pass Meagan O'Dell (2011-16) for 13th on the list.
  • Long had her first Division I double-double earlier this year, pouring in 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in Tarleton State's double overtime win over Houston Christian (11/9).
  • The senior guard set a new Division I Era single game program record with seven made 3-pointers twice last season.
  • Long is the first Texan in the Division I Era to post two consecutive 25-point games. She is the first Texan since the 2013-14 season to post back-to-back games with at least 25 points (Kiara Wright, Feb. 5-8, 2014).
  • She also became the first Texan in the Division I Era to have back-to-back games with six or more 3-pointers. She is the first Texan since the 2011-12 season to have two consecutive games with six or more 3-pointers (Peyton Adamson, Jan. 11-14, 2012).
