Tarleton State Women’s Basketball travels to UTA for regular season finale Thursday

ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball is set to travel to UT Arlington for the regular season finale on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the College Park Center.

The Texans are looking to get back to their winning ways after five straight losses. UTA is also searching for a win after losing five straight games. Senior guard Gia Adams is a former UTA guard and will face her former team for the third time.

Fans unable to attend the game in person can watch on ESPN+ and also listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network.

PEAK PERFORMER
  • Tarleton State signed former All-WAC First Team player Gia Adams this past season. Adams is second on the Texans in scoring and leads the team in assists.
  • Adams recorded her 100th assist of the season at Southern Utah (2/18). She is just the third Texan in the Division I era to record 100 single season assists.
  • Adams is currently second on the program's Division I era single season assists list.
  • She scored her 1,500th career point at ACU (2/3), becoming the only active player in the WAC to have that feat.
  • Adams was named to the ACU Christmas Classic All-Tournament Team, averaging 22.5 points and eight assists per game.
  • Adams was named to the 2023-24 All-WAC First Team at UT Arlington before transferring to North Texas. The Cypress, Texas, native was the Texans' first transfer to sign with the Texans.
  • Averaging 14.5 points per game in her junior season at UT Arlington, Adams led the Lady Mavs in scoring and was the third-leading scorer in the WAC during the 2023-24 season. The Dave Campbell's Honorable Mention All-Texas guard won four straight WAC Newcomer of the Week honors and registered six 20-point games in a UTA uniform. She dropped a season-high 30 points at CBU, the eventual 2024 WAC Champions.
  • Adams spent her first two seasons at Tennessee State and had one of the best seasons by a Tennessee State freshman in the program's history, averaging 12.9 points per game en route to winning the OVC Freshman of the Year award.
DOMINANT DEFENSE
  • Defense wins games and the Texans have taken that to heart.
  • Tarleton State's defense held its opponent to under 50 points for the fifth time at Utah Tech (1/31), leading the Texans to their 1,000th win in program history with a 63-45 decision.
  • The Texans have a 4-1 record this season when they hold the opposition to under 50 points.
  • The Texans held UTA to just 37 points on Jan. 21, the fewest in a WAC game since joining the conference in 2020. It is the fewest points the Texans have allowed in conference play since Feb. 29, 2020 (37 at Texas A&M-Kingsville).
  • The Texans held UTA to 0-for-15 shooting in the fourth quarter on Jan. 21. It is the first time since Dec. 4, 2021 Tarleton State held a team to 0% shooting in a quarter (0-for-11 vs. Arlington Baptist, 1st quarter).
  • Since women's basketball went to the fourth quarter format in 2015-16, the team never held a team to 0% shooting in the 4th quarter before the Jan. 21 performance against UTA. The closest the Texans got was on Dec. 12, 2020, when they held Champion Christian to 1-for-14 shooting in the fourth quarter.
  • Tarleton State also held Mississippi Valley State to 1-for-16 shooting (6%) in the second quarter at Mississippi Valley State (12/2).
STRONG STARTERS
  • Tarleton State's starting five has accounted for the majority of the Texans' scoring this season.
  • The Texans have used eight different starting lineup combinations this season, with each starting five accounting for at least 53% of the team's scoring.
  • The starting five for the last six games (Gia Adams, Jakoriah Long, Kyriana Jones, Caroline Lyles, Elodie Lutbert) have accounted for 83.0% of the Texans' points.
  • Tarleton State's five starters all scored in double figures in a win against Southern Utah (1/15), combining for 67 of the Texans' 81 points.
  • The starting five of Adams, Long, Jones, Shadasia Brackens and Lutbert have all scored in double figures in three games this season.
  • All five starters scored in double figures in back-to-back games on Dec. 2-7 (at Mississippi Valley State, vs. Texas A&M-San Antonio). It was the first time since Feb. 16-18, 1989.
