WACO, Texas — Tarleton State Track and Field had a successful day at the Baylor Invitational on Friday setting a pair of school records and ending the night with five individual event champions.
In a meet that saw two school records fall and five individual winners, the Texans also set eight new program top 10 performance bests. Nine Texans placed in the top three in their individual events as well.
Malak Rashwan set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles crossing in 13.66 seconds to break the 13-year-old mark. Rashwan was just 0.02 seconds away from breaking the Egyptian national record of 13.64 seconds. Overall, she placed fourth in the event but was the top collegian in the competition.
Jacob Thomas broke his pole vault school record for the second time this season. His best clearance of 5.21 meters won the competition as well by almost a foot. He cleared all four of his heights on the first attempt before three misses at 5.30 meters to end his day.
Tayler Wessely won the hammer throw to claim her second individual title of the season. Wessely's best throw of 57.54 meters came on her fifth attempt. She was the only athlete to record any throws farther than 50 meters, with all four of her counted tosses reaching that mark.
Mason Hill won the men's shot put with a season-best toss of 17.17 meters. He was just a few inches shy of his career best of 17.36 meters. Hill won his first individual title of the season.
David Mvundura won the 200 meters running the 15th best time in the NCAA this season. The season ran a personal best time by a hundredth of a second clocking in at 10.68 seconds. He also placed third in the 100 meters. Mvundura ran a season-best wind-legal time of 10.45 seconds.
Noah Allen claimed the Texans' first top three performance of the day in the men's long jump. Allen notched a second-place finish with a best leap of 6.73 meters, setting a new season best.
Mackenzie Hill placed second in the women's long jump. Her best jump of 5.88 meters came on her third attempt. She entered finals in second and maintained that position in the final three leaps.
Sakina Umar Awam placed sixth with a best leap of 5.74 meters to tie for the tenth best mark in program history.
Christian Simmons placed third in the 800 meters in his Texans outdoor debut. He ran the fifth fastest time in program history crossing in 1:51.98.
Prestina Ochonogor improved her sixth-best time in program history two hundredths of a second to 11.60 seconds and placed eighth overall.
Amandine Estival finished in 10th in 11.65 seconds.
Nellie Wartanian placed 13th running the eighth-fastest time in program history in 11.74 seconds.
Cam Hawkins ran the tenth-fastest time in program history clocking in at 48.00 seconds in the 400 meters. He was the highest finishing Texan placing ninth overall.
Estival improved her fourth best time in program history in the 200 by 0.02 seconds crossing in 23.59 seconds. Estival placed 10th overall in the event. Wartanian ran the seventh-fastest time in program history clocking in 24.13 seconds. She placed 18th overall.
Tarleton State Track and Field will host their only meet of the season next Friday and Saturday on April 17-18. Admission is free for all and Saturday afternoon will feature a senior presentation.
