STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Women's Golf continues with its second tournament in back-to-back weeks at the Powercat Classic hosted by Kansas State at the Colbert Hills Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
The two-day, three-round event will start on Monday. Due to expected inclement weather on Tuesday, the pairings on Monday will continue play after the first two rounds on Monday to get in as many holes of the third round as possible. Live scoring will be provided by Scoreboard by Clippd.
The reigning back-to-back WAC Champions are one of three teams in the field that was an NCAA Regional qualifier last season. The Texans and South Dakota State were each automatic qualifiers with the Jackrabbits winning The Summit League. Kansas State earned an at-large bid to the tournament. The field will also include new UAC foe Central Arkansas as well as Bethune-Cookman, Cincinnati, Creighton, Incarnate Word, Kennesaw State, Loyola-Chicago, Monmouth and Missouri – St. Louis.
Last week, the Texans were led by
Magda Domine at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate who posted her second-straight top 20 performance to begin the season. Domine led the Texans shooting a nine-over, 225, to tie for 22
nd place. She recorded the first under par round of the fall for Texans with a 71 on her second round.
Gina Chen was just one shot behind her in 22
nd place and
Luchi Quiroga tied for 24
th one shot behind Chen.
The Texans will head to Kansas State for the second-consecutive season.
Natalia Fiel Ros led the Texans a year ago to a fourth-place finish. Fiel Ros was one of two Texans in the top 15 after transferring from Kansas State before last season. Chen posted the best individual round shooting even par on her second round.
The Texans will stack up in the order of finish at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate. Domine will compete out of the top slot followed by Chen and Quiroga.
Filippa Mortensen and
Yanin Kongthawornwong round out the five Texans competing as a team. Fiel Ros will compete as an individual.
Head coach
Isabel Jimenez enters her ninth season at the helm of the program. The back-to-back WAC Coach of the Year spent all four years of her illustrious playing career for the Texans. During her time at Tarleton from 2012-16, Jimenez was a four-time All-American and the No. 1-ranked Division II player in the nation her senior year, which led to her being named the PING Women's Golf Coaches Association National Player of the Year, the first in Tarleton State and Lone Star Conference history.
Tarleton State will have two more tournaments in the October to complete their fall slate. The Texans will next be in action on Oct. 12-14 at the Golf Iconic Classic hosted by New Mexico State at Las Cruces, New Mexico. Their fall finale will be at The Clash at Boulder Creek hosted by Northern Arizona on Oct. 25-27.
