Mills was a star in the 400 meter hurdles and on the 4x400 meter relay team for Tarleton State, four times named an All-American and four times the conference champion. In 2005, she broke the program’s 400 meter hurdles record at 59.19 seconds, a record that still stands today. Mills was an All-Conference student-athlete four times, the team MVP twice, plus was once the Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week.
 
In 2001, the Texans were national qualifiers in the 4x400m Relay Team and brook a school record at the time. In 2005, her team was named All-American and broke the record again, this time at 3:42.40, a mark that stood for 10 years.
