Tarleton State University Athletics

Joined the Tarleton faculty in 1961 and retired in 2001 after serving in several academic and administrative positions. He served as the Faculty Athletics Representative from1980-2000. Johanson was very involved in Tarleton’s move from the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association to the Lone Star Conference… a major move from an NAIA non-scholarship program to an NCAA Div. II scholarship program. He served as President of the Lone Star Conference from 1997-1999 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tarleton Texan Club since its inception. Dr. Johanson has probably attended more Tarleton athletic events in his 40 plus year relationship with Tarleton that any other individual and was one of the first recipients of Tarleton’s All-Purple Award.
