Lugo was an outstanding field general who improved each year that he was in the program. He was second team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference as a junior and as a senior was named Most Valuable Offensive Player in the TIAA. He earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors and was the Outstanding Offensive Player in the play-off win of St. Mary’s of the Plains. Lugo led the Texans to an 11-1 record in 1990, throwing for 2399 yards and 20 touchdowns.
